Student Representative Council (SRC)

This year’s SRC representatives have been chosen and they are as follows:

Year 6: Khadija Khan, Noor Mgoter, Hamza Sheriff and Ali Alkundi.
Year 5: Zaynab Alasadi and Rajbi Dhaliwal.
Year 4: Mahdi Al Naseri and Suhayla Griffin.
Year 3: Burhaan Syed and Ayat Fatima.

We had our first meeting of the year on the 23rd March. Our principal joined us to speak to the students about the importance and value the school gives to the students’ voice. Students were receptive and understood the significance of their roles.

The SRC’s goal is to learn the opinions and ideas of their peers and bring these items to the meetings to discuss and make decisions that will be of benefit to their schooling experience. On a personal level, the students will develop leadership skills, discuss matters respectfully, debate, learn to work as a team, develop organisational skills and develop strategies to battle challenges presented to them.

The SRC aims to improve areas within their school which will range from having a say in facilities, rules, curriculum, student wellbeing and extend to community involvement. Students will be given positions of responsibility within the SRC, such as president, vice president, treasurer, public officer and class representatives. These roles will allow for a more efficient student council.

As their SRC support teacher, I will give most of the responsibility to students and support and guide them when necessary. They will run the meetings and I will give them autonomy when discussing matters, finalising and making decisions.

We hope to have a successful year filled with events, activities and projects that will be of benefit to their school and community.
